I just bought this off of Craigslist for 20.00, great analog radio from 1978, looks new and has the external speaker.

Good deal! I had one of those when I was in the Army, took that thing everywhere and eventually parted with it. It does not need much of a antenna, a random length of wire run around the circumference of my barracks room worked very well. Get some spray contact cleaner and go over it real good. Lots of DX 160 stuff on the 'net. Lots of mod potential!

The external speaker sounds good on everything! Nice solid case.

You got a great deal for $20.00 off of craigslist.I have seen the Dx-160 Receiver selling used at Hamfest for $50-$100.00.Good Receiver to get started on for Short-wave.There is a lot out there on the short-wave bands to listen to.

Thanks.

cleaned everything, no scratchy dials or selectors.

Using a 25 foot reel antenna.

For me it is like a little time machine, I was 8 when these came out.

I'm keeping everything stock. but it looks really good for being 34 years old.

That is when radio shack was good, they had everything... not it's cell shack...

I look at this radio and think what I was doing in the 70's... had a better time back then compared to now...

I looked on ebay and these are going between 50.00 and 150.00, brand new these were 159.99 in Radio Shack.

Ah, the DX160. When I was a kid, I got a DX-150B as my first "real" SWL rig. Man, I must have spent thousands of hours listening to that thing. Fast forward about 30 years, the 150B was gone but picked up a 160 for nostalgic reasons just cuz'

I have a few of the DX series table tops, but not pictures of all of them online. I do not have a DX-150 currently, but, I do have DX-75 (not working, basket case that I may refurb one day), DX-100, DX-150A, DX-150B, DX-160, DX-200, DX-300, and DX-302. Also a DX-400, but that is not a desktop. Yeah, I do need to pick up a DX-150 some day, had one years ago, but not lately.

Here is a pic (left to right) of the DX-200, DX-160, DX-100 (top of DX-160), another DX-160, DX-150B, and DX-150A. The DX-300 is in the radio room, the DX-302 is in the living room, and the DX-75 is out in the shop, under the bench as a "future" project".

Well I sold the DX-160 to a senior citizen (Craigslist) who wanted a older radio.

i thought about it and I like the idea of an older radio but I don't have the space and i knew that it would not get any use after the honeymoon.

The guy was happy as hell, he was looking for these on ebay but in his opinion they were too expensive.
