Does anyone know of a repair facility for Realistic scanners?
Radio Shack does NOT offer that service according to a reply email.
The "new" post-bankruptcy Radio Shack no longer offers any type of factory repair service (or repair parts) for their products even during the product's warranty period. If the item fails during the warranty period they simply swap it out with a new one. If you are interested in the availability of factory repair service down the road, it would be better to chose another brand of scanner when purchasing brand-new.
As RR member budrousa has already suggested, G & G Communications out of New York comes highly recommended. I have personally used them in the past and have found them to be very fair, reasonably priced and they do quality repair work .
FYI Uniden also offers scanner repair of non-Uniden scanners but only for repairs that do not require proprietary parts. For example, they should be able to repair a problem with a common power connector, antenna connector, volume control, etc. but would not have access to a proprietary replacement board assembly that had failed or proprietary case parts. Their flat-rate repair charge for scanners is $69.95 plus $10 shipping and handling in the USA (
