Are there any reasonably-priced RF meters? I remember having an app on my phone at one point, but not sure how accurate it could've been.

While the Bird 43, and it's variants, is the "gold standard", it's accuracy is +/- 5% of full scale. What makes the Bird 43 popular, I think, is its reliability. The aluminum housing and simple, passive power measurement are major factors in that reliability.

The Daiwa CN-501 series are pretty decent. Make sure you get the right one for the power level and frequency range you're interested in. Approximately $140.

The Diamond SX100, SX200, and SX400 range from $105 to $125 depending on power level and frequency range.

I don't think I'd get too excited about the inexpensive, no-name meters you might find on Amazon, Ebay, Banggood, or Alibaba.

SFC, when I first started, I obtained a Comet CMX-2300 Twin, both were cross needle meters. I got it in 2015 for $99.99 plus shipping on flea bay. It is an excellent meter having dedicated meters each for HF and V/UHF.

Just looked it up again on flea bay and oooooh! They went up...
