• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The wiki for rebanding the 800 MHz band indicates that "wave 1" of reconfiguration should now be well underway. The wiki also says that exactly how Motorola will reconfigure the control channel is unknown, since as of the wiki posting, it hasn't been done yet.

My point/question is then that if rebanding really is underway, then perhaps there is someone out there who lives in an area where Motorola system has actually been reconfigured-- and thus could comment on the "before and after" impact on scanner users.

Thanks

Motorola just finished the software recently.
I doubt anyone has completed reconfiguration.
"Underway" includes a lot of planning activities before any equipment is reconfigured.

The first large system to have funding approval from NEXTEL is the UCAN system (Utah). Final signoff on the agreement is not expected until the end of June, so I wouldn't expect actual switchover to start until late Summer at the earliest. (http://mrtmag.com/news/regulatory/ucan_ta_funding_021406/)

But, there could be some smaller systems under way that haven't gotten any press.

Do we know what Motorola will do??

Paul or anyone else,
Do we know which of the following options Motorola has decided to go with??

1. Just change their channelization and make no other changes to the data.

2. Use the control channel format used for P25 systems.

3. Use a completely new control channel format specifically for rebanded systems.

4. Something else...??

Thanks all!!

And those of us who have read the documents on the TA's website have known that from the beginning, so when are the scanner manufacturers going to catch up?

Because since they have to reverse engineer the changes, they have to wait till they are out there to be reverse engineered. (Technical Reason)

Then they got to figure out if it is worth the effort. (Business Reason)

not nessasarily, there is a new option in CPS 7.00.00 called "shuffled band plan" that enables system managers to assign logical channel numbers, instead of FCC numbers. Essentially the concept of LCNs on EDACS and LTR.

Was that just added as part of the re-banding update, or just a new feature (maybe to address a host of issues)

How different is that from #1 (Well I guess technically it falls under #4, but it is NOT #2 or #3!)

I'm told it's specific to ASTRO25 only.

Since it seems P-25 trunking allows for either band-plan or LCN assignment, maybe it is just for P-25 mode operation?

(I am taking a guess here)

That's my understanding.

I know the rebanded 3600 CC won't do much more than basically announce the site as using the new rebanded band plan or the old band plan (and nothing more). So I can't see them going to an EDACS style of table/LCN programming.
