Receiving HF DSC signals . . . what is needed?

What is needed to receive DSC signals with an HF receiver? I'm starting from a place of total ignorance.

Depending on what app you use, you will need 2 files to look up ship names and locations, if memory serves. These are the MID / MMSI lists and can be found in the Maritime section of
