That goes back a ways. I worked for the company that made the Lesats and UHF Follow on birds, although I didn't work in the spacecraft division.

By the way prcguy, does the 'prc' part of your name have anything to do with the PRC-25 or PRC-77?

Just wondering, because I worked on both of those projects also.

You guessed it, but preferably something newer than a 25 or 77.
prcguy

That was after my time then. ;)

I worked on them during the transition from the PRC-25 and final amplifier tubes with LONG solder leads to the all solid state PRC-77.

Rich

That was during the time when, if an IC failed, there was a 'waiting list' for any failed units. (That was on an adjacent project)

They were so rare then that the guys would take them to a jeweler to be gold plated and made into either cufflinks or tie tacks.
It was kind of a 'status symbol' I guess. Not so much now. ;)

I would say you have about 15yrs on me. Not to hijack the thread, but did you work on an early RCA HF manpack that only had a small number fielded for testing, probably in the mid to late 60s?

If you're talking about item number 5 in this list, yes I did. Actually I worked on all of those items.
(That is an extract from an unclassified document that is on the web in a number of places.)

It looked like a big portable TV, laying on it's side, mounted on a short tripod.

Edit: Gee, $2 million bought a lot back then! ;)
FWIW, that document is on the NASA site here:
