Reception Problem

I have a Uniden BCD325P2 scanner and am trying to receive a p25 talk group.

My scanner is able to locate the control channel and shows 5 bars at this frequency. However, when someone transmits the frequency changes, the bars go down to 2, and rarely hear anything.

I feel like my antenna is adequate to receive all the frequencies. The main control channel is 139 but most transmission are in the 150’s.

Which system are you trying to monitor?

Which system and site are you trying to receive? Is it the Deerfield site of the WISCOM statewide trunked system? Most Dane County traffic is on this system: DaneCom Trunking System, Madison, Wisconsin

I was thinking that too based on the clues. It's a simulcast Harris system, so it's time to get one or both of the SDS scanners:

Seeing your a premiumium subscriber did you set it up with frequencies AND talkgrps? So many I see do tend to just put in frequencies.
You mention control channel - 139? If so, replies above assumptions aren't correct? I'm guessing thats a typo since there are no 139.xxx frequencies in WI.
So if you do have 139..xxx programmed in, thats incorrect, re-check your programming or even put the file on this forum for us to check it over.
The suggestion to just get an expensive SDS model without looking at the programming and what system(s) your trying to get is premature imho right now.

Thanks for the responses. I am scanning the Wiscom blue mounds tower but specifically Dane county DA LAW 1 talk group. A 139 frequency is the first one listed according to radio reference.

The Deerfield (Dane County) site of the WISCOM system shows a 139 MHz frequency in the database:

I am only trying to monitor the DA LAW 1 channel in the Dane county talk groups for Wiscom.

AH Ha! The 139's... I was looking at the system link that was provided in the posts 3 & 4 earlier!

I still fall back on what I said, post your programming file on here so we can check it out.

I see this on my SDS200 on some systems tho my sds will receive the 2 bar with no problems. Seems like control channel has more output power than some of the voice channels.

If your scanning Blue Mounds, that's referred to as Deerfield in the database. There are 5 different sites in Dane County all with different frequencies. Does not look like any simulcast on any of them. Which site are you closest to and have you tried a different site?

Probably, Dane County talkgroups will not be carried on the Blue Mounds (Iowa County) site. Stay with the 3 Madison sites in Dane County.
