If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anyone happen to have a recovery file (.rcd) for a MD782i vhf for firmware V9.02.04.001.iM

Also how do you make a recovery file? Had a radio that took the upgrade then loaded a saved codeplug and after it reboot it was stuck in a boot loop. Went back to firmware upgrade mode and happen to have a recovery file and that fixed the issue. Tried that same codeplug and went back into boot loop. Went to load the recovery file again and it was gone. Seems after its used it deletes itself.

Wanted to reload that then read the radio and make a change, write back and see what happens then. But i think the saved file i was trying to load was corrupt or something. Cant find any documentation on how to make a recovery file either

During the upgrade: open the upgrader installation folder, there should be a "restore" folder and an .rcd file inside it — copy it to a safe place as it is ephemeral and will disappear when you turn off the upgrader. After safeguarding the .rcd file in question, try Restore — it helped me with other errors on PD.

Is it a radio specific file? Can i read another MD782i that is UHF and grab that file to load into these 2 messed up VHF ones?
Or does it need to be same model number and same band split?

Update

Upgraded a UHF radio and saved that file. Loaded it into the VHF radio and got the Read ack error (bootloader)
Get this trying to load a couple other saved rcd files iv found in my laptop recovery folder

When trying to do a normal firmware update it makes it to CD Writing and finishes that and whatever comes next it fails with the same Read ack error bootloader

Another update

Radio accepted the UHF recovery file but gave a gif pic error. But it did come back to life just gave that error then an error 103 since the serial number dont match

Hytera told me to do a fw upgrade, said that isnt working. Then said do a recovery and told them tried that because i did have the file then after it wrote it vanished so they said oh then your radio is badly damaged and needs to come back to us for repair (at 250 bucks a radio)
Apparently they cant make a recovery file or anything like that

So new SOP now is saving a backup of the recovery files during upgrades JUST incase.
The original upgrade worked but it didnt like the codeplug that was wrote to it as it was stuck in the boot loop. Hytera said i need to put the ignition cable on to fix that. Told them yeah...tried that with it on and off (we are a dealer so we kinda know our way around these things)

So short story long. Back up your damn recovery files!

Each .rcd is unique to its radio. Sorry for the late reply.
