I was in Redding several times last week. Before I left, I used ProScan to download and program my scanner with the Redding TRS data. I heard only two ID's all week:

600-8 was a combination of Public Works and Bus or Dial-a-Ride service. There was chatter on 600-8 almost non-stop during the workday.

600-9 was all police traffic.

Something tells me the 396T wasn't programmed correctly because it's totally different from here:
Scanner Frequencies: Redding, City of (Public Safety) Trunking System, Redding, California

I logged and recorded several hours one day. I never heard any Fire or Waste/Sanitation traffic.

Any ideas?

You should have run your scanner in the OPEN mode. This would identify any talk group on the Redding system and you could have taken notes...

What is the open mode?

I used ID Search the entire time, not ID Scan.

The open mode allows the scanner to pick up any talk group using that system. The closed mode permits only those which you programmed into the system. Listening to some things would be boring and only interrupt your ability to hear important police and fire traffic.

Really easy to open and close a TRS on Radio Shack scanners too. I just stop on one of the frequencies and hit the function and delay keys to change from open to closed and vice versa...

Isn't ID Search on a Uniden the equivalent of Open Mode? That's what I used up there.

Redding also has a Public Works TRS. Maybe that's what got programmed, or maybe both together?

I checked what was programmed. The freqs were correct.

The other trunked system was totally dead. I couldn't even find a control channel.

Me again. I downloaded the database and noticed that ProScan is assigning a Fleetmap as follows:

Block 0=4
Block 1=4
Block 2=4
Block 3=4
Block 4=0
Block 5=4
Block 6=12
Block 7=0

I wonder if this explains the weird talkgroup ID's I encountered last year? Should these be set to 0?

I'm back from visiting Redding. The fleetmap is definitely obsolete and should be deleted from the database.

Note to Database Admin: Please, please delete the fleetmap from the DB. On the Uniden 396T, you cannot retroactively edit the fleetmap without "ruining" the stored TGID's. I had to keep notes on a piece of paper because the TGID's were destroyed when I fixed the fleetmap problem manually.

New talkgroups not in DB are listed in bold.

57360 - Bus
57392 - Bus
57488 - Bus
57520 - Bus
57616 - Public Utilities
57648 - ????
57904 - ????
58032 - ????
58288 - Trash Truck Talkaround (I think) - being used for chit-chat. Refererence to scale weights several times and "trash" mentioned once.

58672 - Police Dispatch
58704 - Police
58736 - Police

I just took a quick look and I don't see any remnants of a fleetmap. I reset the system type to see if that clears it.

So what about the other Redding TRS (Services)? Does it still exist?

if your talking about fire and sheriff, they are still on the vhf system.

redding fire had tried the 800 system, but because of the lack of inter-op abilities they split and went back to all of their VHF channels. sheriff just couldnt get the coverage they needed.

redding pd is still on the 800 system.

they are better off with VHF up there anyways.

Once the system was changed to Type II and the fleet map was deleted, many of the original Type I talkgroups defaulted to "0". Can you guys please review them and let us know if any of them survived the transition (and what the new talkgroup IDs are) or if they should all be deleted? Please do so through a database submission.

Thanks!

The conditions have been so stellar for the past couple of months that I am actually picking up Redding Fire and Shasta Sheriff from here in Fair Oaks. They are definitely both on VHF.

sheriff just couldnt get the coverage they needed.
And never will on 800 MHz.

redding pd is still on the 800 system.
The last time I was up there I received Redding PD just fine on the 800 MHz TRS; with PD1 as TG 58672. I don't recall ever needing to program for a type I system for them (unlike Merced county).

Given the info on fire vacating the system, I have deleted the "0" leftover Type I talkgroups. In the process, the "Fire" and "City Transport" talkgroup categories were deleted. Please submit an update if you know the applicable Type II talkgroup IDs for any City Transport talkgroups.

I tried downloading again with ProScan...the fleetmap is still there. And I think it's downloading as a Motorola Type I system judging by the "M81S" label that Uniden uses. I think that should read M82S for Type II.

Last week I e-mailed Bob Aune about this problem and after checking it out, he suggested asking a DB Admin to look into it.
