Does it turn on or is it completely dead? Did you check the obvious... like the wall wart power supply?

I beleive the walwort for that scanner is different, 3 wire. It has a 3 prong at the radio. With it plugged in move the plug at the radio to see if there is a break in the wire anywhere.Maybe not making contact.

The reason I asked... I have a MX5000. It stopped working and was totally dead. And yes... it has the 3 wire plug configuration too. I don't think one of the pins is in use if I remember correctly. Anyway... the wall wart was dead... no power to the radio. I bought a "same voltage" wall wart from Radio Shack and soldered it to the radio bypassing the plugs. All has been working well for over a year.

Good job, keep the vintage scanner going.

I believe those scanners were manufactured by AOR for Regency. It might be worth checking with them. As the others have suggested, I would look at the power source first.

I checked with AOR and they no longer suport the Regency MX7000.

I checked the power with a VOM and the radio is getting the right amount of voltage. The radio hums when it is in the 1200 Mhz band and sometimes the audio drops out. Now it just does not work. It does make huming sounds and only works on NFM for a few minutes then goes dead.

It definitly is the radio. It makes wierd sounds and acts funny.

I need to find some company that can fix this radio since Regeny and AOR no longer suport this radio.

I have checked the voltage with a VOM and it fine. Regency and AOR no longer support this radio. It makes funny humming sounds and the audio will drop out. Then It could only hear NFM and them it would go dead or renoot. On 1200 Mhz it really hums. The audio will drop out sometimes. When The radio is given a tap the audio comes back which indcates something is loose in it. The radio started to have problems like this after I owned it about 10 or 15 years them it would have to go in for repairs every 3 years or so.

I need to find someone who can repair this radio. A third party that has knolege of the MX7000 series of scanners.

Thanks

Ted,
Is there some reason other than nostalgia and an open 800 band that you want to spend money to get this scanner repaired? We had these in our patrol units in the late 80's. They were constantly having to be repaired, and the intermod was terrible. Almost any modern conventional scanner is light years better than the MX-7000.

These old and slow scanners do things other scanners can't. I've been monitoring the space shuttle and other military comms for years on my MX5000. Try programming 259.700 AM into your new scanner and see what happens. :)

You mean like my Pro-160? It works fine. :) There are certainly more than enough modern scanners, such as the ones shown at Milcom Receiving Equipment - The RadioReference Wiki, to cover the AM UHF bands. Of course, they don't have an open 800 band...

Any luck with the needed repair over the last four months? I can't get the pad on my MX-7000 to respond, and I'd like to keep this unit going. I found it to be very reliable in any band over the years, and wouldn't mind sinking a few bucks into it. I like old stuff, and am in the process of spending $2000 on keeping an '85 Oldsmobile on the road!

Before I found a really dead MX7000 to strip the pad from, I use to take a pin and short out the area on the pad that was not responding to my presses. That was back in late 80's early 90's.

I found mine in the garage recently. I also have a key pad that doesn't respond. I took it apart today and thought the connector for the key pad was loose, but after putting it back together, it still doesn't work.
