PUBLIC SAFETY AND HOMELAND SECURITY BUREAU ANNOUNCES REGION 17 (KENTUCKY) REGIONAL PLANNING COMMITTEES TO HOLD 700 MHZ AND 800 MHZ MEETINGS

PR Docket 93-132 and WT Docket 02-378

The Region 17 (Kentucky) 700 and 800 MHz Regional Planning Committees (RPCs) will hold two consecutive planning meetings on Thursday, January 10, 2019. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., the 700 MHz RPC will convene at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, 200 Mero Street, Room C118, Frankfort, Kentucky 40622. Immediately following the 700 MHz RPC meeting, the 800 MHz RPC meeting will convene at the same location.

The agenda for both meetings (700 MHz and 800 MHz) include:
• Call to Order - Chair
• Roll Call – Chair
• Approve Meeting Minutes
• Open Discussion
• Adjourn

Both Region 17 RPC meetings are open to the public. All eligible public safety providers in Region 17 may utilize these frequencies. It is essential that eligible public safety agencies in all areas of government, including state, municipality, county, and Native American Tribal be represented in order to ensure that each agency’s future spectrum needs are considered in the allocation process. Administrators who are not oriented in the communications field should delegate someone with this knowledge to attend, participate, and represent their agency’s needs.

All interested parties wishing to participate in planning for the use of public safety spectrum in the 700 MHz band within Region 17 should plan to attend.

Hmmm... So by this I take it that pubic safety organizations are looking to start using 700 and 800 MHz bands for communications? Will this also be a new transmission format/protocol that we haven't seen before?

Sounds like they are saying "Okay, we are getting closer to making 700-800 frequency allocations for Kentucky. If you are interested in this direction, let us know what your needs are, so we can keep you in mind."

Regional planning committees are required to hold meetings periodically and the FCC publishes public notices of upcoming meetings. That's all. It doesn't necessarily mean anyting is going to change any time soon.

Henderson County already operates a P25 system on 700 MHz, and there are two dozen or so 800 MHz trunked systems operating within KY as well.

As nd5y correctly points out, the notice is monotonously routine. Those RPC meetings have been happening for years. The 700 MHz spectrum plan and allocations for Region 17 (Kentucky) was approved in 2013.

I'm not really sure of the point of this thread, frankly. Every RPC issues one of these notices multiple times per year. Perhaps @ipfd320 was not aware of that fact, and misconstrued that notice as being somehow noteworthy.
