Hello,

The Radioreference listing is just the tip of the iceberg!

This is a Wide Area EDACS system with both Analog and Digital talkgroups. I do not know what type of Digital modulation is being used.

The site currently in the database for Quebec city is Site 19 (Hex). Where I am east of Quebec (New Town) I can pick up sites (Hex) 1, 4, 5, 8 (Weak), 17, 18, 19, 1b (Weak).

So besides touring the old part of the city I have been trying to figure out the LCNs. Not easy given you have a number of sites active at once. It also appears frequencies are reused at the different sites.

Site 19 (the one in the database) is very busy. I assume with the number of channels and the activity that it is in the central part of Quebec City. I think site 18 is East of Quebec City.

I suspect the Digital Talkgroups are Police. The Quebec city police have 2 800 MHz antennas on the car. There are a bunch of digital talkgroups.

Digital Talkgroups (Decimal) on Site 19
417 Very Active Also noticed it on sites 1 and 4, 18 etc
418 Very Active Also noticed it on site 4
419 Also noticed it on site 4
421
424
428 Only appeared on site 4
793
820 Also noticed it on site 5
825 Very Active

I noticed that the 866 and 867 frequencies are mostly used at the same site so I made a list with the fractional part of the frequency then the LCN-Whole MHz. Here is what I have so far for completed sites.

Site 1 has 7 LCNS
.1125 1-866 5-867
.3625 2-866 6-867
.6125 3-866 7-867
.8625 4-866

Site 4 has 8 LCNs
.1625 5-866 7-867
.4125 1-866 3-867
.6625 6-866 8-867
.9125 2-866 4-867

Edit! Edit! Edit! This site must be in Beauport because I received transmiter spurs on two different type receivers or both receivers act the same.
Site 18 has 7 LCNs Beauport
.0875 1-866 3-867
.3375 5-866 7-867
.5875 2-866 4-867
.8375 6-866

Go to http://www.infoscan.urgence.qc.ca/category-view.asp and then, search in the database. (on the home page ** RECHERCHE (SYS) **)

All EDACS and others systems in the province of Quebec are listed there. Yes, Quebec police are using ProVoice. You will see others to: Laval police and fire services (encrypt), Sherbrooke police and Longueuil police are using ProVoice.

Hello,

I can not select RECHERCHE (SYS). There is no link associated with it.

Are you signed-up and logged in? I tried it and was able to read the records.

Hello,

I am not registered. I may try to register when I get home so I can sit and figure it out. Does infoscan give the locations of the various sites?

I wondered why Quebec City needed so many sites but after getting a map and seeing the size of Ville de Quebec I can see why. Old Quebec and "The City" are just a small part. I drove around alittle before I left and found there is a site 1d (Hex) but did not have time to figure it out. It was not active at the time I listened. I suspect that Site 4 is over in the Sainte-Foy area. It seems like the low number sites are in the western half and the high number sites are in the eastern half.

I noticed that the frequencies allocated to a site are spaced multiples of 250 KHz. Site 19 is an exception perhaps due to the number of frequencies. This allowed me to more easily figure things out after a few sites.

I also noticed that Site 19 does not normally use two frequencies that are listed in the RRDB (866.8875 and 867.3875). These frequencies are also used for Site 17 and I suspect they are only used when all other frequencies on Site 19 are in use.

Eric,

You'll need to pick up some keywords, but MJC and I have managed through it so you should be able to also...

The 250kHz spacing is typical of Canadian systems whereas the US tends to use 1MHz. That was in the days when frequency assignments were easy...now it could be just about anything.

Thank you sammycookie for the Fire Service talk groups (Service Des Incendies) and all the
site names associated with various towers. :) Your English is fine.
