I would like some information on accessing my computer from another computer, I am running Windows 7 home premium on my computer, what I would like to do is this.

I have access to a computer outside of my home but can not put any software onto this computer, the computer outside of my home is running either Windows 7 or Windows vista what I want to ask is this.

Is there a freeware program out there that I can run on my computer when I go out and have this computer program run and when I'm out can access my computers Desktop like I was sitting in front of my computer and access my programs, with out installing any software on the computer outside of my home, don't know if this can be done without running a software program on both of the computers.
Any help with this would be appreciated
Steve

Best program I can think of is Teamviewer. Now I know you can not install software on the external computer, but with teamviewer, when you run the setup file, you can choose to Run or Install software. If you choose Run it does what it says, runs the program, and it does not actually install it. If you click Install, well then it installs. Give it a try and see if it works.

TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet

Here is the setup for that, http://www.teamviewer.com/en/res/pdf/first_steps_spontaneous_support_en.pdf

Also you can install the software on the computer you want to control, then you can access it on the web if you sign up with Teamviewer. Go to the first link above and click the Web Login button on the top right.

Thanks for the information I will go to the web site and see if this is what I need, If I can find a program I can install on my computer at home and leave it running when I go out, and then if I find a public computer all I have to do is use Internet Explorer to access my desktop this would work perfect.
thanks again for the information but I think I have to put something on the remote computer to runs this program, I'll check it out.

Yup, you just install Teamviewer on the computer you want to access, then use Internet explorer to access the Teamviewer website on your remote computer.

Use RDC, or you can use logmein.com which only requires you to install the software on the computer you want controlled. You then just go to logmein.com and login.

You failed to mention this is a trial software and after the trial it will cost you $ 69.95 to buy the program to keep using it !

Sorry.. Wasn't aware that i was required to mention that.

Well, that's not a fair thing to say, mainly because it's not true. There is a free version of logmein (https://secure.logmein.com/US/products/free/) that will, in fact, meet the requirements laid out in your original post. That's the version I use, and I can guarantee you it ain't $70. Perhaps you should recheck your facts?

Ok I stand corrected, I did not see the free version of this program, I was not aware of two different versions of this program, thank you for pointing this out to me.

No worries. The nice thing about logmein is that you DO NOT need to have admin rights on the remote machine - something that is often helpful in situations like yours. Hope it works for you!

;)Just downloaded the software and have the free version working, I think. I will have to go to another computer and see how it works, but so far I am impressed with this program, thanks for your help with telling me about the free version of the program .

Try these

RealVNC
RealVNC - Download VNC® Free Edition 4.1

TightVNC
TightVNC: VNC-Compatible Free Remote Control / Remote Desktop Software

Open source, secure works well. Otherwise I usually use windows remote desktop. It is built into certain versions of Windows. All versions of windows can download the client to access the remote machine, but the remote machine must be running XP Professional, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, Win7 Business or Win7 Ultimate. Therefore, you will be unable to use this.

I recommend TightVNC

I think you mean RDP (remote desktop protocol).

Only issue with a lot of the programs and protocols mentioned is you need to open/forward port(s)on the router. Some versions of Windows does not include RDP, although you can enable it with a few hacks and even allow multiple concurrent sessions.

As the OP found out, logmein.com is by far the easiest solution. I use it all the time since where I work blocks everything mentioned here except logmein.com. Plus, it's SSL. I also use it to have access to my in-laws', mother's and brother-in-law's PCs if they need help.
