• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi folks, got a head scratcher here. The following issue is on a fire truck, utilizing an APX8500 remote dual head setup. We have an O2 head mounted to the pump panel. Install was done by contracted Moto Techs. The O2 remote head has stopped working. Will not power on with ignition, or manually without as we were able to do before. I swapped a known working O2 head onto it with nothing there. I then took the non-working O2 head and put it in a known working position on another 8500 remote location and it will not work there either. I have traced as much of the harness I can under the truck and into the cab with nothing out of the ordinary located. The guys said they took the apparatus down a very bumpy road the night before it was reported to have stopped working. Our setups apparently only use the red, black and yellow doesn't go to anything within the wiring harness of the power cable.

Is there anything else I am missing to check before I call up the techs? Also, the main deck for this radio has power as the interior radio that mirrors the remote head has power and works fine.

Thanks

All three wires need to be connected on every control head. Have your radio shop inspect the head for a blown internal use.

Yellow Doesn't need to be connected if they are using ignition sense off the brick (see page 50 of the install guide). You would need to check the fuse on the red lead that maybe why a working o2 head did not work in that position and also have the non working head checked by your service shop since it did not work in a location that previously had working o2 head.
