repair bcd396xt

I have bcd396xt and I can't connect to my computer for the program with the usb-1 programming cable. I can with bcd996. Please help

Do you have the correct cable?
If it is a 9 pin cable is it a Program Cable or GPS Cable?
If it is a USB Cable do you have the correct USB Driver?

I would just install the usb drivers.

Important Windows 8 and 10 Information
The current Prolific Driver, as delivered through their web site and through Windows Update for Windows 8 and 10, will not work with older USB-1 cables that use the PL2303HXA chipset. To use these drivers you must have a current USB-1 cable that uses the PL2303HXD chipset. If your cable was bought before 2013 you need to buy a new cable.

Another thing is Microsoft updates for windows 10 here have caused me to have to reinstall drivers. I also use this method to force windows to accept unsigned drivers. Of course be sure to get drivers from reputable places as above from scannermaster.

Since you had it working before I would insert the cable and go to device manager and remove the cable from that, then reinsert the cable.
Also occasionally cables do go bad. Personally I use the included serial cable and then a USB-serial adapter that works with the latest windows 10 and is much less money than a new usb1. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0758B6MK6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would get a new cable before sending unit in for repair. I had to get a new cable a few years ago as the old ones no longer worked. Order it from uniden or on Amazon.
