Hello all, my whistler 1010 died and I was looking to replace it, everyone knows I live in San Juan County and I pick up analog, so does anyone have any suggestions for an everyday carry scanner I can take with me everywhere, I travel to Skagit, Whatcom counties as well.

Uniden BC125AT. Amazon has it for $120.99 or you could grab one off eBay for a bit less. Great little analog scanner. Much smaller form-factor than the 1010. Only downsides are that you cannot name the frequency banks and it tends to eat batteries quickly since it uses two AAs. I always bring a spare set of rechargables when I take one somewhere.

Another option would be the BC75XLT which is about $20 cheaper but does not include alpha tags so you only see frequency and not a name associated with that frequency. Personally I'd spend the extra and get the BC125AT.

The new icon R15 should be shipping out next week I hope. A bit pricey though. As mentioned abouve, the 125 would be a good inexpensive analog radio. Go check out the Icom forum for more information on the R15.

Yep, BC125AT for receive sensitivity, flexibility, form factor vs Whistler and user interface.
However, the Icom R-6 cannot be excluded… I have one packed full of still-used analog frequencies for my province. It’s 1000 channels, frequency coverage and audio quality are super. Its battery life ? amazing.
If you don’t necessarily need to enter / modify your programming on the fly (‘cause the R6 isn’t necessarily user-friendly when hand programming arises, if you don’t do it regularly), a used IC-R6 could be a nice thing to consider.
