we need a way to report users, not only threads. All of us come here to exchange info, ask questions, LEARN :!: , and just have fun, and we don't need members/guests berating, insulting, and just plain making it miserable for other members/guests, I come here to try and learn all I can about the scanning hobby, God knows I need all the help I can get, but it has gotten to the point where I and others like me are afraid to ask anything for fear of a, I quote, "flame war" Lets work to make this a site we can all enjoy.

Users may be reported in same way as you report specific posts. If you find something objectionable in the forums, you simply press the "!" icon on the offending post and you are presented with a form which allows you to express your problem with the post or poster. Since users usually interact with other users in the fourms, this is your best bet.

However, if you are being harrassed or bothered by someone through the PM channels, please use the "Quote" capability on the PM and send it with an message to Lindsay who will deal with it.

As you are new on the site, I would like to call to your attention this announcement on Etiquette and the Forums by the Webmaster.

I think what fears people from posting, asking questions, input etc is the big people on these lists. They have to understand that some people on the list no very little about this hobby.
I noticed that the fighting and complaining starts with stuff like this:

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?, It makes the person feel like a moron
Try to be more gental with that one. Maybe put that your not trying to be rude about that question.

WHERE DID YOU HERE SOMETHING STUPID LIKE THAT?. He probably heard on the street and is asking the professionals here.

THAT HAS BEEN ASKED SO MANY TIMES! Ok, explain to the person asking where he or she can go and see where it was posted or asked.

I can go on and on but won't.
All the experts had to start from somewhere and they where asking questions? thats how we all learn, ASK AND DON"T BE AFRAID.

There is alot of smart people here to answer your questions and hopefully will start by being polite

Just my 2 cents worth

Well, OK!

But I look at the forums (fori) I participate on, like I am talking to people at over a beer.

Take what you hear (read) with a grain of salt.

If you think you are being insulted, smaile and have another sip of beer.

If you have a question, ask a question, don't make a statement to be challenged.

And whatever you do, have fun!

my mother taught me to ignore those who would belittle me... unless i need additional information from people who are flaming me i will not even bother to join in the discussion because there are too many people in here who know more about what i need to know than the little people whose enjoyment is acting like the wanna-be's they seem to be... you will learn those screen names and their aka's as you are in here more often. enjoy this place, take part in the submission function, learn, have fun and just ignore the wanna be's who would bully you...

Believe me I know exactly who those people are!!!! But don't forget that they have alot of info that you can take in. Look at my joined date, I've been here for a long time. I've been lurking alot in the backround.

Take care

HAHAH I noticed that as well..
You know, after I posted that comment, I got to thinking... I looked back and something must have happened to the TrunkedRadio.net site in December of 2002, because I was registered prior to that (with this ID, dug out my email history to find the confirmation from Lindsay) and just a glance at the Users list, seems to indicate that a lot of users have that as a "Joined Date", hmmm.....

I think sometimes we have a hard time pointing out what we are trying to say. And some people try too hard to rip up what you are saying. However this site does provide much needed and very helpful infomation that your user's guide that comes with your scanner does not provide. For the most part on this site people do really try and help you understand some of the problems that come out after the scanner has been released. For instance the firmware updates on the 296D and Pro 96. I know some guys or girls try and walk you through the problem you are experencing and probablt over a 100 percent can help you get your scanner working without returning it to the company and delaying your listening pleasue. Thanks to all who do a great job in helping those people.

I know that RR.com seems like it has been here forever, but it has not been live and released to the public for a year yet! Lindsay went out of beta and live over the weekend of Feb 28-29, 2004. That still doesn't explain why this ID I am using is dated some 2 months after I set it up nor why my other ID, which I don't use anymore and was around for longer than I like to remember, has the same setup date???

I will definitely take everyones suggestions into consideration. I will not bore you with my history as to why this bothers me so, but instead I will try and grow thicker skin, but at 40 I think it's done growing

You are absolutly right, these Ladies and Gentleman apparently have great knowledge when it comes to this hobby, I was comming here for some time "lurking in the background" as well before I decided to register to ask a question. I find this to be a GREAT site, full of usefull info., and in most cases nice people, and that is why I keep comming back.

So again, I apologize to everyone that read the post that led to this one. I should have never stooped to the level of those in question by calling names.

Now lets GET IT ON! and have some FUN.

Seems lots of people grow thicker skin (and much else) after 40!

I would like to offer a different spin on the concept of reporting users. When I have watched some of the people who frequent this place be a bit harsh, they are usually fairly knowledgable people. What a bout a new section for newbs? There really isn't a spot here for people to ask just plain old basic questions that is isolated from some of the other sections. I'm a newb myself. And sometimes when I read various threads, I don't understand what is being said as a result. If there was a area that was seperate, only those who were experienced who didn't mind dealing with dumb questions would frequent this area. The whole group wouldn't be subject to them. And as a result, I think we would find less instances where people want to report other posters.

st00: if you have a question you should ask without fear of being belittled. if one of the bullies in here acts holier-than-thou there are things you and all of us can do to remedy the problem.... there is no excuse for anyone in here to attack any other member... learn and contribute... and have fun.
