st00: if you have a question you should ask without fear of being belittled. if one of the bullies in here acts holier-than-thou there are things you and all of us can do to remedy the problem.... there is no excuse for anyone in here to attack any other member... learn and contribute... and have fun.

I would like to offer a different spin on the concept of reporting users. When I have watched some of the people who frequent this place be a bit harsh, they are usually fairly knowledgable people. What a bout a new section for newbs? There really isn't a spot here for people to ask just plain old basic questions that is isolated from some of the other sections. I'm a newb myself. And sometimes when I read various threads, I don't understand what is being said as a result. If there was a area that was seperate, only those who were experienced who didn't mind dealing with dumb questions would frequent this area. The whole group wouldn't be subject to them. And as a result, I think we would find less instances where people want to report other posters.

Just start the question with "I'm a newbie" and most here won't attack you.

I lot of what you see is people correcting or adding to an answer, and the original "answerer" getting emotional and defending their answer (sometimes without checking to see if they realy were wrong).

Just put some thought into the question, and read the answers for content.

Appreciate the advice everyone. I'm not really affraid to ask a question. I like to however, wait and continue reading the thread to see if I can figure it out. It's a longer road, but I think I'll get more fruit. And if I can't figure it out, then I'll just break down and ask.

The amount of publicly available material on radio in general in my area is not nearly as readily available as I had hoped it would be. I have been to several book stores looking for just books on VHF/UHF and RF and have only found one book, which was far too advanced for me. I guess that is why I think these forums are so valuable. Everybody is migrating to packet. Be it in ham, or police. As a result, I think less and less information is published. Of course, there is always amazon.

Heh...I have done that and that was when I was nailed. That is ok. I come from the GNU/Linux world. I have a thick suit for flames.

I will definitely take everyones suggestions into consideration. I will not bore you with my history as to why this bothers me so, but instead I will try and grow thicker skin, but at 40 I think it's done growing :lol: :roll:

Hmm... I'm a n00b here, but this is the attitude some take when answering most of the questions on this board. (You've been here a while, made a few friends and now have fun at others expense. I know because I do the same thing on other boards.)

So, just lay off for a minute, and think about your answer before you post it. Some ppl don't have our thick skin.

And, re your answer to "Just start the question with "I'm a newbie" and most here won't attack you." Nobody here should ever "attack" anyone. If somebody asks a stupid question, either ignore it, or take it upon yourself to give them a knowlegdeable answer, but without the glib tone. I know you have the knowledge.
