Yall need to stop reading into things so much. He as well as a hand chosen few other PSC Techs tested and vetted radio equipment for Calfire, Alan will be missed.
Absolutely agreed. He ran a great shop and has a passion for what he does. Great tinkerer, finding every little problem, and solution, to the various equipment CalFire purchased. I have a feeling he'll still be around, supporting our hobby especially in monitoring CalFire, ham, APRS and whatever else suits his interest. Enjoy retirement!

The circle of the new radio system is most likely upgrades to VHF as well as the new 700Mhz state Phase I or Phase II system.

Difficult to tell how the counties will utilize the system. Wait and see.

Appears that was your?

What Dane was implying was not to look too deep into the literal text at hand. Alan was an instrumental figure in testing new vendors, hardware, etc. with CalFire. That's what they meant as "research and development" and people are latching on to "new radio systems" like it's CRIS 2.0. No, on the contrary, Alan took the KNG P150, M150's, BKR5000, BKR9000, etc and put them to the full litany of tests and helped make sure the entire PSC dept. understood the nuances of each hardware and how to make it work best for everyone in the field. In other words, after the state procurement signed the multi-million bid to Relm, Alan would then come in and scrutinize the radio head to toe, and make it (hopefully) work.

There's no new system. They're staying on VHF. Period. Prevention and Admin will find their way to CRIS for sure, but otherwise, no hidden agenda folks.
