By any chance do you have Cable, or a satellite dish, or receive TV over the air from an outside connection, or a wired internet connection? If so, it could be a good place to start to ask... show the spouse and then ask, if another wire could be put there (especially if the hole is big enough to fit one without any more drilling (just say wire, not cable, maybe the diameter of RG-174 if need be), and that you can hide the wire behind some trimming. After all, you just want to be able to talk to her in case there's an emergency.... Right....
