Additional Noise Source

I found that my personal noise demon was caused by an old and defective light dimmer/ switch in the family room- 20+ over S9. Drove me bonkers. Once found, cost $10 to replace.

well i use a mag mount just because i cant mount a outside antenna or one anywhere else

As long as your antenna is indoors, the noise issue is going to be a problem. Most of the time, the best thing to do is get it up and away from that stuff, as much as you can. And any wide-band antenna is going to bring in a lot more noise. 1/4 tends to be pretty wide, as do discone. Even putting something in an attic or on a balcony might be better.
