Considering geting a uniden BCD996XT. Like to put a discone antenna in the attic. Should i be concerned about using RG6 75 ohm coax, instead of LM 400 hi pro coax.

No. For a scanner application 75 ohm coax is fine. While you may be able to measure the loss (of 75 ohm vs 50 ohm coax) using special equipment, you'll never notice it using just the scanner.

LMR-400 will give you less loss at the higher frequencies, but at a much higher cost per foot as well as for the connectors. It is also quite a bit stiffer and much harder to work with. There are also reports that it is more prone to water damage. RG-6 is a bit higher loss (1 S-unit or so for 100 foot at 850 MHz) but is much cheaper per foot as well as for the connectors, is much more flexible and easier to work with. The choice is yours, however. Both will work well for you to feed your scanner.

You won't notice any perceptible difference in signal receive quality/strength between RG6 and LMR400.

I use RG6 to a discone in the attic and it works fine for my BC796D.

The difference between 75ohm and 50ohm is very little on both RX and TX. I use RG6 for all my transceivers just because of the low loss and 100% shielding.
(p.s. Get a good quality RG6. There is some really crappy stuff out there)

Right, such as RG-6 "quad shield". :)

For RG6 I recommend Belden 1694A. Only the black kind is suitable for outdoors. The colored in not UV resistant.
