Hello, Just bought BCD325P2. I live out in northern RI and looking to listen to RISP. For example would I input the 10- 800 MHz frequencies in the northern zone and then input the talk group, Example Talk Group 21 RISP? I got time on my hands and looking to input stuff manually. Thank you in advance.

You only need to enter in the control channel frequencies for the north zone. You do not need to enter in all.
And yes, you enter in the TGs.

The 325P2 scanners are a lot easier to program using software, just so you know.

Also a word of warning, as mentioned ad-nauseum on these forums. RISCON is a simulcast system, you may experience simulcast distortion depending on where you are. I have personally experienced it in Providence County before.

I ended wiseing up and downloading Freescan,
So, how has your 325 picked up the system? Hope you've had better luck than me. My 436 with the antenna pointed just the right way, with the wind from the NW, and if I hold my breath, can get exactly 3 transmissions per hour of RISCON on the N site. My RS-197 just sluggishly stumbled by it without saying anything, to the point I've removed the RISCON system from it. It isn't worth even trying on that one. That system is a PITA. Well there's always Cumberland to listen to 😂

I've never seen the acronym PITA before, but it took me all of 10 seconds to figure it out. :)

That system is a PITA.

You just need better equipment. :p

At my house, 15 miles from the nearest border from Rhode Island, I can pick up RISCON North without any issue, but only on my SDS 200.
I can get East Bay Zone most of the time and the South Zone if the wind is blowing. However on my beloved 536HP, it will not decode.
I also can't get it mobile until I am about half way across Rehoboth.

Hi Tunes12 I read that you downloaded Freescan which is great May I suggest Uniden Sentinel software I'm not sure if it is compatible with your new scanner but if it is it is very easy to use I used to live in Lincoln and I could pick up the North and Metro simulcast towers with no problem now I live in East Providence and get all of RISCON on a stock antenna

It is not. It is only compatible with the Home Patrol, 436/536 and SDS scanners.

Keep in mind that RISCON is a simulcast system, meaning that it transmits from multiple sites simultaneously. Uniden scanners(with the exception of the SDS100 and 200) are notorious for simulcast distortion. This means they have a problem processing multiple signals arriving simultaneously.

I use the system every time I am at work and have done so for 15 years. It works flawlessly and the state is continuously upgrading and expanding the capacity. I also have the correct equipment to monitor as a hobbyist. Also check out the Unication G4/G5. It doesn't have the flexibility of a scanner but is excellent to monitor 1 zone at a time. The Uniden SDS 100/200 are also good choices. All other Uniden models will be problematic.

It picks up RISCON North very well. I wish I just listen to Providence and the coastguard, I would probably have to put a huge antenna on my roof!!
I did buy a REM-842B BNC REMTRONIX PORTABLE TRIBAND ANTENNA. I’m curious to see how it works in my area. I am aware that it may not make a difference. Does anyone use this antenna in this area?

15 Miles from the border in Mass. I am not going to disclose where I live specifically.

He lives in a van down by the river.

I send many people to the Simulcast Distortion Article here when they think I'm trying to sell them a bill of goods about having to go to the top of the line Uniden scanners to properly receive such a system. Often times it seems likely that if you're going to have a snowball's chance in hell of this working with any other scanners, less may be more in the antenna department, and even then an absolute crapshoot.
