With this week being Spring Break for the Roanoke Valley Schools, (school buses and schools quiet), I thought I might hear more traffic on the Roanoke Valley Radio System (RVRS). Regular traffic like county and city services were busy as usual, occasional jail traffic, and Roanoke City Fire-EMS was running calls.
But when the regular traffic is muted there was no other traffic that normally occasionally pops up. I know Roanoke County Fire & Rescue, Roanoke County Police, Roanoke City Police, Salem Fire/EMS, Salem Police, and Vinton Police are all encrypted.
According to the Data Base, Roanoke County Sheriff, Roanoke County Services, Roanoke City Sheriff, Salem Services, Vinton Services, Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, and Other services should be in the clear.
Matter of fact I have not heard traffic from many of the open sections for a while. I have checked the Service Types to make sure they were checked on both scanners (SDS100 and BCD436HP). Just wondering if the Roanoke Valley Radio System might have had more encryption added or if I might be missing something.
