Technically all volunteer departments are 800 capable with a radio given to them by the state. When I was a Sperry FF we patched with TFD on occasion on an RMA or fireground tacs to communicate with them on grass fires or house fires in black dogs distrcit during the day so we could interoperate. Dispatch always sounded a bit confused and we only had one radio, but it worked when we needed it to. Not sure if this is the case with rock, they may have a sand springs loaner or something since they work together alot on 97.

Nope, we sure don't.. someone at Tulsa PSC called the other night and asked if we had RMA access and seemed shocked when I said no. They ended up trying to patch RMA 2B to 155.490 for us on their end.

Phil I'd be willing to bet if you asked the fire chief he has a handheld that was given to him about 2 to 3 years ago from the state for regional mutual aid. Mr. Butler may or may not know what it is, but it should be there. I actually witnessed the arrival of the radio at Sperry and the Tech was on his way to Skiatook with yours. So, it does exist I'm 100% sure, it just may be in the wrong hands or in nothern hungary with the guy that bought it on ebay.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking  I'd like to have a mobile/base unit here in our Comm center; it'd come in really handy when we work with TCSO.

I don't think so. I could give you a VERY long list of departments with no 800 capabilites. So which state agency is passing these radios out again?

Can't you just talk to TCSO on the "low band" frequency?

I do believe Sperry recieved theirs from the Oklahoma Department of Homeland Security. It's been a couple of years ago. I could give you a very long list of departments that do have them, and I was told every department with access to a DPS tower site would get one for state interoperability. I'll research further and get more accurate data.

Keystone Fire received a portable from Tulsa Area Emergency Mgm't several years ago. Every volunteer fire department in Tulsa County was supposed to receive one. When EMSA received their grant to upgrade it included radios for agencies that responded as first responders with EMSA and surrounding EMS agencies that might be called in for mutual aid. Keystone and Mannford received a radio from EMSA at that time. I would have thought that Skiatook would have received a radio from EMSA due to the location and you provide ALS service. You can contact James Mullins with EMSA and see if Skiatook could get a radio like Mannford did and have it installed in the dispatch center. EMSA will have Total Radio come out and install everything for you so there will be no cost to your agency.
