Frankly, it depends on what else you intend to listen to. If, for example, you wish to scan the Morris County P25 system, you're going to want a scanner that can adequately handle the simulcast modulation.

At this point you're limited to a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 for the best performance with a simulcast P25 system, and both of those scanners will also receive DMR/MOTOTRBO with an upgrade that costs an additional $60. Not cheap when all said and done, that's for sure. You could also go with a BCD436HP or BCD536HP with the same additional $60 upgrade for DMR, which will receive Rockaway Twsp PD but will suffer a bit with the Morris County system. Those are your Uniden options.

You can also look at Whistler scanners, which would also suffer somewhat with the simulcast modulation of the Morris County system, but would receive Rockaway Twsp PD on DMR without requiring an additional paid upgrade.

It appears that the Unication G5 will also be able to receive DMR with the latest model/firmware, and is also extremely good at handling simulcast systems like Morris County's, however they are not nearly as flexible as a scanner. I believe you can only scan on "system" at a time, so you would not be able to scan Rockaway Twsp PD and Morris County simultaneously.
