Just out of curiousity, how are things done over the radio for the Rose Festival for the big events.

For the Starlight Parade, I noticed that they used "Metro A" and "Metro Law 1" for coordination.

Your post pretty much nails it. Each and every radio on the Portland (and Washington/Clackamas County for that matter) system has three common talkgroups - "Metro A", "Metro B", and "Metro C" (these names are changing slightly in the near future, but the use will be the same). This enables any subscriber to communicate with any other subscriber, which makes these ideal for large events that are supported by personnel from multiple local/regional agencies.

In years past, the Fun Center detail from Central Precinct has operated on Central Tac 1, but the parades are usually on the metro channels.

LAW 1 and LAW 2 are also common to most law enforecement radios in the metro area, but not all agencies have them.

Washington County and Clackamas County have similar channels on their system, called "Common/Public Safety 1" and "Common/Public Safety 2".

a little additional to JoeScanner's post...

If an event is ONLY in Central Prcnt, like most protests or political rallies, most likely it will be on Cent Tac 1. But if it is a larger event, as he noted, check one of the metro channels.

Regarding Washington county, Common Law 1 & 2, and Public Safety 1 & 2:
PS1 (Public Safety 1) I have noticed being used for traffic details. Common Law is usually for officers from different agencies to meet to discuss stuff.
I have, in the past, heard PS2 used for training

just my 0.2 cents

PS. Speaking of parades, I am going to be helping out at the Hillsboro 4th of July parade, there will be ham radio operators helping out with emergency communication, I will let you all know what freq we will be on.

When I was driving past the US 26/OR 217 Interchange, Beaverton PD along with Washington County SO were using Common Law 1 for catching those yahoos who drive 70+ all of the sudden I hear "yeah its that black sedan that just past the car with the ham antennas and the call sign plate" which of course the white car is MY car :). And sure enough, Beaverton PD went after that black car.
