Good Morning Friends

I have a RS 668 sent to Whistler for the software/firmware flip. After putting in my local talk groups which are in Macedonia Ohio, I have yet to hear even one transmission. Is that possibly because this radio doesn’t do simulcast very well. New at this and kind of lost. By the Im using the RS 800 MGZ antenna also.

Thanks Kindly Everyone

If it is a simulcast system then it could be becasue the scanne doesn't play well with those. Marcs system is simulcast if that is what you're refferingto system wise.

You should still hear something. I have two upgraded radios similar to the 668, and due to a good location, I rarely have any problems. The upgrade made the Pro-18 noticeably better and did improve the GRE but not as much. There are several suggestions in posts on RR that might help.

The Whistler's notoriously don't play well with Simulcast (and can attest from my own experience, it was totally useless for me).

There's a map of all the transmitters for the Summit County site (assuming that's the one you've programmed in). If you're between a few and using an 800Mhz antenna, you're probably the full brunt of the distortion.

Try with the stock antenna, or a stubby one. It may help to pull in "less" of a signal.

Over the past several months, me and 2 other forum members, have run tests for a member who lives in that area on the MARCS and GCRCN systems on the Rt 82 corridor from I-271 to Boyden road. Our radios consisted of GRE 500, Legacy 800, SDS 100 & 200, Unication G-4, Bluetail Technology P25, and professional Motorola radios. The only radios that work satisfactorly in that corridor are Unication, BlueTail, and professional radios . As you approach Boyden road the GRE-Whistler and Uniden radios become deaf. The RF in that area wipes out MARCS and GCRCN. Part of the issue is the two cell phone, microwave towers on Boyden at Rt 82.

MARCS itself is not simulcast; only specific sites are simulcast, mostly in major metropolitan areas. The overwhelming majority of MARCS sites are stand-alone, which the Pro-668 will receive just fine.

You're located between the Summit (site #2) simulcast and the Cuyahoga (site #1) simulcast. There's a Summit tower located on the border of Twinsburg and Macedonia. This may be a case were "less" antenna is better to eliminate signals from the other Summit towers. Also try monitoring those talkgroups off the Cuyahoga site to see if that helps.
