RS Pro-97 keep or upgrade?

Found a Pro-97 in a drawer we had from years ago new. Don't have (can't find) the cable to program it.

Is it worth tracking down a new cable and software to program it? I am guessing we will miss some coverage as does not have digital trunking?

This is the area we are interested in. Volusia County, Florida (FL) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Or what will a Uniden SDS100 do that this can't.....

Welcome to the RR forums. For your county emergency services at the very bare minimum you're going to need a P25 trunk tracking scanner, unfortunately the Pro 97 is analog only. Your county's system is P25 Phase-II capable but fortunately for you all talkgroups but one (TGID 301, Eastside Fire Dispatch, TDMA Mode "T") are FDMA (mode "D") so you can get away with using a P25 Phase-I only scanner to track all but the aforementioned talkgroup, see full list of supported scanners here. Also the sites aren't simulcast so no need for an SDS100 or SDS200

Keep it and use it on the air band. Use your google fu and look for a cable. Or, do like I am doing with my Pro 26 I found after 20 years is set it to scan between 225 and 400 Mhz for air band. Mine works great on air band.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will shop for a SDS100 at this time as it seems the newest and up-to-date for what Uniden sells currently.

I believe Volusia is still on EDACS at this time, last I heard their P25 system seems to be stagnant besides mostly patches from EDACS with maybe a couple native users. They do have some digital ProVoice talkgroups on EDACS but it looks like they're encrypted, so all digital (DE) talkgroups are unmonitorable.

Your PRO-97 should work perfect as an analog trunktracker until they do eventually close up shop and move to P25.

I have a Pro-107 here in Oviedo, and last time I turned it on, Volusia came in loud and clear. I am assuming they have not changed anything in past year .
