• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I wish /\/\ still made them like this......able to pound nails and often used by public safety as a defensive weapon. I have some VHF Astro Saber model 3's that were used in the oil and gas industry, they were great for that use case as well.
OP got me to click though, wanted to see a waterproof model.

I have a fairly rare mid band Saber III that covers roughly 70MHz through 88MHz with a huge antenna.

That's cool, never actually seen a midband Saber before. I know they existed, but never actually seen one. Is there even anything in that band that you can listen to or talk on?

There is some paging relay stuff and a lot of digital noises. I have Saber software that extends the frequency range and I once put it in between a couple of FM radio stations to see if it would work and it did.

Just picked up another VHF Saber 3. Dear lord, that thing receives NOAA without an antenna! Saber family photo in my home office. If anyone has a DOA small square Saber battery, I'd love to pick one up for my Saber 1 (not pictured)

That LAPD UHF Astro Saber....boy that brings back memories! I ended up with two of them. Strange story of what turned out to be tolen radios. Ultra short version: Someone stole the Moto shipment to LAPD right off the back of the UPS truck. 80-odd Astro Sabers. I ended up with two. After the smoke cleared, I was permitted to keep them because the insurance company didn't claim them.

Kind of a stressful situation in my life, but in the end, I had my trophies. I know who MAY still have my pair which I later sold after getting bored with radio collecting.

Lol you were the Saber guru way back when I started reading these forums (911ish days?) what do you collect these days if not radios? (However it was probably batlabs I began reading first)

Been at Batlabs since before the current boards pre 2001 and Elroy was the Saber God back then over there. Miss the old Batlabs days where the For Sale forums had 5-8 new posts per day, now they get about that per month. With the good ole days of Monty, Will, and many others ( all of whom have now long since passed on ) - don’t think it’ll ever be the same. I know MTS2000DES is active on here. Bought a few mint Jedi radios from him way back in the Batlabs days.

Also - be curious to know how you came across that LAPD Astro Saber ! Didn’t know those were sold at auctions thought they scrapped them. I’d love an authentic LAPD Astro Saber for my collection but those are next to impossible to get.

Astro Saber is one I never was fortunate enough to find. Did they have the same quirky programming that bricked the radio if you breathed on it or are they more forgiving than thr regular Saber?

Mine was given to me by a radio friend here in LA.

Way more forgiving. They're essentially an XTS3000 in a different housing.
