Hello, I am a new user here. We live in Salem county, and like to scan the local frequencies. A few years ago, the county Fire and EMS went to a system of frequencies between 501.1625 and 501.7625. The local town police forces continued until recently to use older frequencies, between 154 - 156.
In the past few months, the local town police forces have also switched to the 501 frequencies, which we are receiving very well. However, the city of Salem PD has disappeared. They no longer use the old frequency of 155.430, and they do not use the 501 frequencies. Elsewhere on this site where the frequencies for Salem county are listed, there is a listing for Salem city of 453.5625 which was added to the list in May of 2007. We have monitored this frequency, but hear nothing.
I made an inquiry on a local discussion forum (not scanner related). A person who seemed to be in the know replied, that when the other departments started using the 501 frequencies, Salem PD began using "their own" channel, since their radio volume might overwhelm the other users. This person would not divulge the frequency. I even went to a FCC website and searched for new licenses for frequencies, but did not find one for the Salem City PD.
Does anybody here know what frequency they are using now, and would be willing to share ?
Thanks!

Pursuit,

Thanks for the reply, but I have tried all those frequencies listed in the database on this site, they aren't using them. My scanner isn't capable of entering ID groups, but this county is not digital, they use an analog system. I can hear the other PD's ok on the frequencies listed, but Salem PD seems to be using a frequency that they are not listing anywhere. My guess is that they might be using a frequency that is meant for something else, but we can't seem to find it.

RRM84,

Depending where you are in Salem County you may not here any activity.

453.5625 is very low profile and is only "usable" to in the immediate area.

Not sure if they wanted it that way but the officers don't complain about it.

n2kej -

That might be the answer. 155.430 used to come in with no problem, so thought the 453 channel might do the same. Thanks-

RRM84,

I don't think you understand what the guys above are trying to get across to you - Salem County is an analog trunk system. You need a trunk-tracking scanner to properly listen to the system.

Trying to listen on a standard scanner is going to lead to missed transmissions...

I too have noticed that the city seems to have dropped the use of the 155.43. I know from extensive monitoring they don't appear to be using the trunked system. I'll poke around and post if I figure anything out.

After testing for the last few days, I can confirm what the database now reflects for Salem City PD being on 453.56250 MHz. I can't vouch for the PL tone, but 146.2 as shown is used on some other Salem County frequencies. This is definately a short range system they have going. I am maybe 5-8 miles max from their tower being here in Pennsville. I can hear the station ok, but the field units I either have to be outside or on my roof antenna to get marginal reception.
