Hello All,

I'm new here, although I've been lurking for years. I really don't want to cross any etiquette boundaries as I know what pain that can be for all...so if I do, this being my first post I apologize in advance.

I live in the foothills between Fontana and Upland, I currently own 2 scanners, a Pro-528 (RS-800 Antenna) and a Pro-668 (Diamond RH77CA Antenna). I have had great success with my Pro-528 where I live at about 1800' up, my main interest has always been in SB System 9 (Upland,Montclair,Chino and Ontario...along with Fire dispatch/com center).

Buying the Pro-668 has opened all kinds of doors for me, I've had it for a few weeks now and love it. Kind of bummed out about some of the encryption issues but oh well, what can you do. The reason I started this thread was to both introduce myself and and talk about the SB P25 system.

I programmed the entire SB P25 system into my Pro-668 along with the San Manuel P25 to test the limits of my Pro-668, I have them in playlists along with all of the local PD's as mentioned above. Up until about a week and a half ago the SB P25 system was relatively quiet with the exception of a few radio checks here and there and some garbled transmissions periodically.

All that has changed though, SB P25 is loud and clear and it seems that Fontana PD has transitioned over to it, or at least some of their units have. In detail from where I live about 15 miles from the heart of Fontana and a little less to where Ontario dispatches from, the P25 has completely drowned out Ontario who had normally monopolized my scanning. I can hear dispatch to all areas of Fontana, it's pretty awesome actually, the digital signal is unbelievably clear for the most part, depending alot on who is dispatching and the strength of their voice.

I have my squelch set at about 11:00 on the dial, that seems to keep everything evened out. I do have a wildcard programmed into the SB P25 and have locked out quite a few encrypted channels. It's going to be fun listening to this system roll out. I just thought I would note here my findings, please feel free to contribute, it's nice chat with people around the area about our local systems.

Also...Haven't heard anything from San Manuel P25.

Unlikely you will hear SanMan if you aren't within a few miles. That system isn't pushing out much wattage, as they have a relatively small area to cover.

I do have a Wildcard in the SanMan system just for the heck of it...makes sense though that it would be hard to pick up unless you were right outside. I might drive up to the Casino one day though, just to scope it out.

I haven't tried any CHP but I do have quite a few talkgroups from System 8 tied into my playlists, of which consist of mainly System 9 agencies.

I do have a Claremont PD playlist, it comes in fuzzy along with Pomona which I guess I need a bigger antenna for because the only time I can pick them up is when I'm within a mile of the city. I do get Pomona dispatch pretty clear though when I'm in the area.

You should program SanBernardino P25 system in, you should be able to pick up the Mountain Simulcast from where you are.

So you do hear Ontario PD on the p25 system? I get to listen the the HDDC talk groups and the 1-DC-2 patch. By chance what site is Ontario Pd on and also is Fontana still on Mtn simulcast. I used to be able to pick up Fontana around the Victorvalley area, but not anymore.

The San Manuel P25 system is encrypted as it contains their Public Safety Department. The signel seems quite strong. They also have an LTR system that contains various departments including slot techs, housekeeping, etc. The LTR signal is not that strong.

I have yet to hear anything that I can confirm as Ontario PD on the P25, I know they have a dispatch talk group on the system though. My thought is that they will roll every department out on it as they are with Fontana right now...that's just my assumption though.

I did catch some HDDC last night, first time for that. I got home about 6 and tuned in, P25 was pretty silent with the exception of the few HDDC transmissions, I got kind of worried. After about an hour of almost nothing Fontana started to transmit again, it sounded like they had gone silent due to some kind of SWAT raid. Like clockwork after that ended P25 was fully functional again Fontana dispatch was going full blast all night...it was awesome.

I can only assume by looking at the coverage areas of the P25 system that Fontana is using the Mountain Simulcast, I'm in the middle of Rancho, so if thats the case the simulcast is strong because Fontana and HDDC came in really clear.
