Ok, probably stupid question. In South Texas (San Antonio to Austin) there are 3 P25 II systems AARS (Alamo Area Regional Radio System), GATRRS (Greater Austin/Travis Regional Radio System) and LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority). I programmed my SDS200 using Sentinel with what I want to listen to which comes in fine, however, I pick up channels I never programmed. Example call on (TGID 46004) Comal County Sheriff which I programmed. The a call comes in from ( TGID 14015) Hays County Independant Scool District which I never programmed. Does this have anything to do with control frequencies or is it just the way the systems work.

A couple of things come to mind:
1) Have you turned off the full database? If scanning the full database is enabled, you will hear talkgroups from the db that you did not program.
On the scanner:
Menu > Set Scan Selection > Select Lists to Monitor, then ensure the Full Database is set to OFF

2) Is ID Search enabled? In ID Search, the scanner stops on all unavoided TGIDs (whether programmed or not). In ID Scan, only programmed talkgroups are monitored. The scanner shows either ID Searching or ID Scanning while scanning a system.
On the scanner:
To Toggle ID Scan or ID Search
While scanning each Trunked System, press Func then E/yes.

I have Full Database off, Search with Scan off.
Is there more steps in toggling in ID search. I toggle System then e/yes
That brings up the advanced Channel Menu
Save TALK Group.

If you're seeing talkgroups you didn't program it's likely ID Search enabled. Pressing Func then E/yes will toggle it off, screen will read "ID SCAN"
Toggle ID Scan/ID Search

Ok, Thanks. I liked scanning better when you just entered the frequency, press program and you were good. Anyway thanks. will give tha a try.

I still love my old-style scanners, but the convenience of a database scanner is great once you get the hang of it. If you don't have it already, the Easier to read SDS manual is a great reference guide. All sorts of good info in the wiki as well.

Have fun!

When possible I "roll my own" and program what I want to listen to via Pro Scan. If I'm going on a long road trip that's not possible so I use the database and GPS. I turn off a number of Service Types and use shorter ranges so I can tailor what I want to hear to some extent.

Still, if I'm going to a specific area for more than a day (and bring a scanner) I'll spend a couple of enjoyable hours building a "Personality" for the area that I can load into the scanner.
