Here is the system info I would like to cover:

Scanner Frequencies: San Francisco, City & County of (Public Safety) Trunking System, San Francisco, California

Need you pros to help me decide on a scanner. I live in San Francisco California and I would like to listen to the public service transmissions.

I would like to be able to learn well on my first scanner but I also would like it to cover most of San Francisco (7 miles by 7 miles) and still be very functional by the time my skill reaches an intermediate level.

I don't want to spend more than $250.

Thanks a lot guys!!

Whats up neighbor! I run a Uniden BC785D which is 6 years old now-works fantastic. I would shop around for a Uniden. Now that Sutro Tower has powered down from analog TV transmissions, you have FAR more recieve ability. I learned that the day it switched-it was dramatic. Welcome here:) shoot me a PM if you need anything.

I would stay away from the GRE 500/600. They are great radios but in The City they overload even with the gobal att on. The 346XT and the 396XT work good.
