Hi,

When I fully insert an external antenna plug into the jack I get a weak signal, but if its half way out the signal is good. Mono or stereo plug it doesn't matter.

Is there an issue with the jack on the radio?

Thanks

Yes, it is possible, that the tip contact in the jack is a bit bent away from the plug's tip contact.
If you then pull the plug out a bit, the cone-shaped tip of the plug touches the jack's contact again.

Sangean appears to use a TRS (or stereo) socket. The pinout seems to be disputed.

I have a stereo to L & R socket splitter, which I am experimenting with on mine. I use a mono plug from an antenna, which I move between the ports, with the stereo end in the radio. So far, I have not been able to sort out which works better, but I have a high noise floor. Now that the weather in Michigan is getting nicer, I will experiment with a loop on ground, with a 9:1, in a park. (When I get some spare time.)

I fixed my issue by getting a stereo plug extension and rewiring the tip to the ring.

Try a mono plug? It worked on SW for me (on my DX-398/Sangean 909) for years.

I did try mono plug and even tried reversing the wires on a mono plug before the stereo plug. I don't know why its working this way, but I'm glad it is and it was a cheap fix. I wanted to get this posted incase someone else runs into this issue with their 909x
