Not only that, but if he's talking about data files, then you can check your state's forum here on RR or see if your state has a Yahoo scanning reflector associated with it (many do, now). Yahoo allows the storage of files (up to 20 mb or so, as I understand it).

There's a Yahoo group for the 246:

BC246T Yahoo group

A site dedicated to storing Uniden's UASD files for the 246:

BC246t org

A list devoted to BuTel's ARC246T software:

ARC246T Yahoo group

Finally, a list devoted to some 246 Freeware currently undergoing development;

Thank for the welcome. Sorry I wasn't clearer in my questions. What I was wondering if folks here had a place to dl/ul trunking files that can be uploaded to the scanner. setting up a trunked system is new to me. Totally different than setting up the old style scanners. I have purchased the software and I am trying to learn, but is much easier to download from a site and upload to the scanner. eventually I will learn to do this myself. Where is a good place to go to that will walk a person step by step?

Thanks for the reply.

Each software package has their own set of instructions; how to up and download files would certainly be a part of that. The 246T sticky in the Uniden forum, plus the Yahoo groups I mentioned in a previous message, would be the places to go for such information.

I think what's confusing is the term 'trunking file'; what you are really looking for is a data file - be it from a UASD Uniden format, ARC246, ect. that contains the information for trunking in your area. And yes, that is as good as any a way to get started. That way, you could start editing and changing the file to the way you want it, and along the way, you'll start learning. It seems to be common, by the way, to upload files to the state's forum; there's no special place for them. However, only certain file types are permitted. I've done that quite successfully in the DC forum, for example.

The 246 is a brand new animal in the scanning world; dynamic memory and 5500 channels (sans alpha tags, it's a bit less using them, if I understand the usage correctly), and to be honest, I'd never start someone who is a newcomer with that scanner. It's just too much. Hopefully there are other Oklahomans that can jump in and give you what you need. Nothing like local help to get you over the hump.

Skywatch,

Believe it or not I would like anything from the Western Oklahoma area. I live south of Canute. I have all the frequencies programmed in from the local Radio Shack. I don't know if anyone uses trunked systems, and if anyone had the systems set up. I have a scanner I bought back in the 70's and i recently purchased the 246. I must say it is a different beast. I have learned to set it up conventionally, but with groups and TGID's and all I'm totally lost on this part. I can download them from the internet and upload them into the scanner, but a trunking setup is a bit of a stretch for me at this time. I'm sure that with some time I will learn how to do this.
Back to the original subject. Does anyone in Western Oklahoma use trunking systems? If so do you have a set of files that I can upload into the scanner?

Many Thanks

The only trunked system you can hear is the AES system, sometimes you can here the gas company's 900 meg system from Clinton, send me a private message and I'll forward you my local 246 files. I'm in Elk City.
