o.k. here's my dilema. i recently replaced 1 of my bct-15's with a bcd996xt. the xt is more sensitive.
i have a radio shack discone <the $79.00 one> in my attic. i run the coax to a stridsberg 4 port multicoupler to run a combination of scanner's. i have a powerhouse fm station probably less then an air mile from my house. in the past it has interfered with my vfh-air band reception. this is the case with the 996xt now too. in addition, my local pd broadcast's on a 154. mhz.fq. their main antenna site is about an equal distance away. it seem's that now when they talk, it's splash's all over my other vhf-hi frequencies in my bcd996xt. my question is, i know very little about scanner filter's. is a fm radio/vhf-hi filter available ?. if this combination was in place, would it reduce all the signal's in my vhf-hi band ?. i took a look at some scanner master and par filter's.

OK I would suggest this one for sure it will illiminate the radio station and all hf noise
HPN-30118 Combined Notch Filter.<---put b4 multicoupler.

I have that multicoupler it does somewhat amplify ..how close to your radios is it ? further from radios with longer jumper could help running into same problem with my outdoor antennas a work in progress

Now What you want to listen to how far is is it ? does it come in strong if so ?
Then use This and adjust accordingly .
ATT-20 Variable Attenuator

maybe it helps maybe Not been playing with radios for 20yrs and thats what i would try.

Good luck!

The best solution would be two separate notch filters in series. The problem, as you noted, with notch filters is that they attenuate a frequency range. That's not typically a factor with an FM notch filter since you want to eliminate a wide range of frequencies but a good notch filter at 154 Mhz will notch from at least 152 Mhz through 156 Mhz. That could be a big problem. From personal use I can recommend PAR Electronics filters. (PAR Electronics - Scanner Filters) Call Dale directly at PAR and speak with him. They can custom tune the filters and his prices are very reasonable for what you get.

I also had a great experience dealing with Dale @ PAR. I needed a notch filter for a very strong WX station nearby. That filter works like a charm (in-line before my 4-port Streidsberg).

if i had to boil this down to 1 non confusing question, it would be. can a filter work across the entire range that i need attenuated ? a fm station in the 100's and a vhf-hi frequency in the 154's ?. other than those two, my reception is pretty much clean. thank's again.

I would Say 1 filter No !

a Fm stereo filter and a custom or pre made notch for that one particular freq yes
What freq range do you want to listen to ? or what are you listening to when you get interference from 154.xxx freq ?
