Hi,

I have a Realistic Pro 2020 scanner that I am using to scan local police/fire/safety happenings in my area. I live in McDonough, GA and have keyed in the frequencies for the McDonough area. I have also keyed in the National Weather Service. I can pick up the weather service clearly and a frequency listed as in the Henry County area but it is in Fayetteville. I know the local police departments were busy and should have had action going on this weekend but I was unable to pick up anything. What would be causing my scanner not to pick up traffic on the frequencies listed in my area? Did the frequencies get updated? I am using an old Police Call book from 1984. Granted that it is 20 years old, the frequencies shouldn't have updated much. I can look on websites for the frequencies and find some of the ones listed in the book.

Thanks,

Chris

if you will look in the RRDATABASE, click on it at the top of this page, and go to Georgia you will see that Henry County and McDonough are on a EDACS trunked mixed mode system. They are on 800 MHz. You must have a trunking scanner capable of EDACS to hear them at all. The bad news is some of the departements are in PROvoice mode, which means that no scanner can hear them.

YOu need to look at the database on this site for all of the areas around you. Everything has changed in 20 years.

I have been told it is possible to listen to provoice its just very expensive, and difficult to do so. It also requires a very in depth knowledge of computers.
The only solution right now is expensive. Thats buying an LPE-200/Jaguar or 7100ip and making modifications. There is a guy on batlabs with the handle "123" He is a dealer of these. Also, if the system is ESK Encrypted then your out of luck.

You "have been told?" Wow, remember back in January you told us you were doing it yourself, dphutsell, and that you modified the computer software yourself (although you couldn't quite get your facts straight on how you did it).

A refresher:

First,

There are many computer programs that use two recievers in tandem to make listening to the ProVoice system very easy. I have tried it in Clayton and it works just fine.

Later,

ProVoice can be listened to. But you are correct you must use a provoice radio and do a little hacking. It also takes a program that I modified myself to listen in.

So we've gone from listening to the ProVoice as "very easy" to you did some "hacking". Before, you had "two receivers in tandem". Now you just need a ProVoice radio. Uh huh.

The answer to the question remains No, you cannot listen to Henry County's ProVoice digital talkgroups on what the vast majority of us know to be a "scanner."

what/who uses ProVoice in Clayton County? PD/Sherrif/EMS/Fire all use Analog. Clayton PD Encrypts their SWAT Channels. Clayton Sherrif however encrypts their TAC 1 and 2, SpecOPS 1 and 2, Admin, Supervisor and a couple more "un-named" channels.

Riverdale PD/Fire/EMS all analog
Forest Park PD/EMS/Fire all analog
Morrow " " " "
Jonesboro " " " "
Lake City " " " "

ETC ETC ETC

just about everything in Clayon County is Standard Analog. with exception to the channels i named above.

Scroll up and read more of this thread. dhutsel made a typo and said "Clayton" when he should have said "Henry". All other references are to Henry County / McDonough area. Henry is actually what the thread is about, not Clayton.

So you're right, Clayton is analog. It's Henry we're talking about with ProVoice.
