I wrote a program for my PC that listens to my scanner – records and passes audio clips real time to Deepgram or other AI programs for transcription. The returned transcribed text is compared to keywords in an excel file. If keywords are found, it emails users that are interested in that keyword. Another worksheet in excel has skip words to bypass some email alerting.

To be clear, the transcription is not great, but it does alert quite well

Let me know if there is interest in this and I can do some basic documentation and let people give it a test on a PC.

I'd be interested in trying this.

This program appears to be somewhat similar to the Rangecast system that ScannerMaster configures & supplies to various users, especially news media organizations.

Their system utilizes one or more scanners, programmed for local public safety systems & talkgroups, and "listens" for specified audio key words, such as 'fire', 'shooting' or whatever else is requested. It pauses the scanner that heard the 'keyword' on the channel (or talkgroup) it was on, and can be set to record an audio clip of the possible incident, as well as email a notification to specified contacts from the agency or organization that purchased the system.

If this can be developed for use by individuals, such as RadioReference members, I also would be interested in looking into this possible application.

Yes! Please share the download and documentation. This would be invaluable in many ways.

FTI…RangeCast from Scannermasterworks very well. Just as hiegtx described! The newsroom I recently retired from has 16 scanners in 3 counties in the system! The long time assignment editor prefers his bank of scanners on the desk…the youngsters prefer the Scannermaster system for the quiet it brings!😁
But YES a program to run at home would’ve great asset..,

How accurate is the audio to text translation? When I tired this admittedly about 2-3 years ago now I would get hilariously wrong translations often. Like I know AI audio to text translation has improved a lot but I always had bad results on DMR recordings (clear, no encryption applied to mess with audio quality)
