Looking for the best option to purchase:

Prefer a handheld option capable of DMR Tier II conventional, but ability to handle some small trunking systems would be nice. I’ve also read some comments about DMR simplex being an issue for some models. I do need that capability, but it’s not a huge issue.

Also need the ability to monitor NXDN Nexedge and P25 systems in Houston and Geneva County, AL.

I am well-versed with the DMR stuff, with experience programming the various Motorola radios, but the NXDN and P25 stuff will all be new to me.

If you're looking to properly trunk track DMR & NXDN go with a Uniden scanner as opposed to the Whistlers which simply scan the voice frequencies without taking into account control data. If you have any intentions on listening to Dothan Simulcast on AIRS then I'd go with a Uniden SDS100 (handheld) or SDS200 (base) to overcome simulcast distortion you'll likely face if you're within range of two or more towers on the simulcast. The aforementioned scanners can trunk track P25 Phase-I and Phase-II out of the box. However the DMR and NXDN upgrades are $60.00 and $50.00 respectively if you buy direct from my Uniden. Third party retailers tend to mark up the upgrade prices by $20 or more if you bundle them with a scanner purchase. Video linked below explains the paid upgrade process.

Best wishes!
