I'm thinking about purchasing either a BC 125AT or BC 95XLT. Does anyone who has owned both of these have any recommendations?

I'll be using the scanner for short track racing and am concerned about the level of audio volume with headset. Do I need to purchase one that has had the audio modification or can I do the modification myself? If so, how do you do it?

I appreciate any info you can give me.
Thanks!
Dennis

Hi Dennis-
Welcome to the RadioReference forums! I don't monitor racing teams, etc with my scanners, so I can't be much help there, but I can tell you this: the BC125AT is Uniden's newest scanner, however the BC95XLT is less expensive (new). I don't personally have either radio so I can't honestly say that I have first hand knowledge, but I must say that (and others may disagree on this) I am not super impressed by the 125AT, in terms of the fact that it is Uniden's newest radio. I don't think it is enough of a upgrade in terms of price or features from what they already have... HOWEVER, it may be perfect for what you need - But unfortunately that is not for me to say. Now I apologize for going on and on and not giving you a solid answer, but I just wanted to let you know that someone did see your post and say welcome to the RR Forums!

I have one (BC125AT) and love it! You won't be able to hear MOTO/TRBO systems (Some Nascar Officials use these) but then again nobody can scan that. It does great with earbuds and noise, I have tested it at work in front of a running jet engine. 90db+.
For the money you can't go wrong, if you don't like it can probably re-sell quick. It's a good scanner for what it was designed for.

Thanks for posting as someone who is more knowledgeable on the topic! :)

I posted in your other thread, but agree that the BC125AT has great advantages in features...specifically being able to use names to identify channels instead of just remembering channel no/frequency for each driver. Also covers Mil Air...much more useful than the 800 MHz coverage in the BC72XLT. Finally, BC72XLT is not optimized for narrowbanding (does not have NFM mode), so drivers using NFM (probably all have to by the end of this year) would have low audio in it.

I've gotten lots of good info that helped me decide on purchasing the BC125AT. Thanks to everyone for your help. Will let you know how I like it after I try it out at the races.
Thanks
