Hello Antigo from another Antigo resident.

Despite the the thread drift going on here I will tell you we have no issues with simulcast. Unless you want to spend the money for the "latest greatest" scanner, the SDS series are not "necessary" here.

I have a 996T, a 996P2, a 536, and a 436. They all work well for me with no reception problems. I hear everything(unencrypted) from the jail portables downtown to all the surrounding counties' repeater systems. When conditions are favorable I can also hear a little bit of the U.P. and far north Wisconsin. I am using an older outside antenna about 20 feet in the air.

Personally, I have been satisfied with my purchases from Bearcat Warehouse. It comes down to what brand you want and what you want to spend. There are many reputable sources recommended throughout these forums.

It's important that the poster be familiar with the systems that he wants to listen to and then purchases the radio that won't disappoint him or may need to be returned.
I addressed that in my reply.
Quoting myself: "Unless you want to spend the money for the "latest greatest" scanner, the SDS series are not "necessary" here."

To suggest (especially to newcomers) that the SDS scanners are completely unnecessary in simulcast areas is the only bad advice being given here.
This is not a simulcast area.

Looks like the member has received from great advice from @AxelsHumanDad who is local to the area.

At this point, the OP can decide whether he wants to invest in a simulcast capable scanner like the SDS series or purchase a cheaper one which will probably work fine for him.
