My GRE PSR 500 stopped receiving all channels. It is scanning but it is not stopping on any channel. I have tried re-setting the defaults, switched antennaes, re-set squelch. It won't even bring up the weather channel. Does this sound like something GRE has to fix?

First try to put in 162.550 for the weather. If the scanner is hearing that, its not the scanner. If you see an indication of a signal but no sound, try a ear phone speaker. possible the speaker jack is stuck open. try an fm station, see if that works. then try conventional frequencies, if all this works, try for a trunking system. Are you using software?

The GRE PSR-500 does not cover the FM broadcast band, so that suggestion won't work. Also, 162.550 isn't used everywhere. Unless you know that his area is covered by that particular channel, a better suggestion would be to press the WX button and step through all 7 channels.

If your scanner is stopping on a channel/talkgroup, but no audio is heard, it may be a bad speaker or speaker wire connection issue.
If it doesn't stop on anything, it is possible that the solder connection from the antenna to the printed circuit board is broken.

In either case, you'll either need to open it up and attempt to repair it yourself, or send it to a radio shop that will do it for you.

There is a shop, in the Northeast I *think*, that will do it. I don't recall the name of it. A search of these forums may bring it up, as other members have mentioned it.

There is no chatter from the weather channel. What next?
If it has taken a fall, it could be the solder connection for the antenna. You can open these up easily, I have opened mine several times, it's a psr 500 as well. I would try that first if it's not stopping on weather channels. Also inspect the speaker cable, but you should be able to tell if it's stopped on the weather channel or not.

Just a thought: Press the tune button. Enter any random frequency. Then rotate the squelch knob fully counter-clockwise, with the volume knob between 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock. You should hear a rushing noise from the speaker. If you do, it's not the speaker. If you don't hear it, it's the speaker.
