Getting ready to make that upgrade purchase and I see that shipping is $9.80 ups ground. Is that pretty much standard for any purchase or is there any free ship deals? Thanks!

That sounds about right. I just purchased a Uniden BCD996T form Scannermaster. Top notch service. You can buy with confidence from them!

It really doesn't matter what the shipping is. The real price is what it costs to your front door. If the radio was $10 less and the shipping was $10 more, it is still the same price to your door. That being said <$10 is very reasonable.
Sales tax is another story as Scannermaster charges sales tax for orders to MA & CT. When I bought 2 996's, that was $60 worth of tax. Going to another place may be worth it if you have to deal with tax.
There are a number of reputable places on the net. Scannermaster certainly is one of them.

Not sure what scanner your going to order, but most of today's current base/mobile scanners are fairly heavy, so that shipping charge sounds reasonable. ScannerMaster has a good reputation also.

Ok, I appreciate your quick reply. I noticed the "bearcat warehouse" is advertising their unit a little cheaper but I'm not sure about them so I guess I better not do it eh? Go with your gut...

Heavy must mean good...I'm getting the BC898T. I was just inquiring because I've read on this site about this one not charging and that one charging too much and the other guy has shipping deals, you know the routine. Thank you for the input.

I think I know what you're trying to say. And in the end it really doesn't matter what it costs because if you want it you gotta pay it!

Welcome to the Wal Mart-ization of America.

This REALLY annoys me...I'll tell 'ya what Auntie.

Ten Dollars shipping means that much to you for a $500.00 radio ?

PM me your mailing address and I'll put a Hamilton in an envelope and mail it to 'ya.

I understand if you're on a budget...otherwise you're a cheapass.

NO WONDER radio retailers can't make money (No, I'm not a retailer).

I'm aggravated and I'll shut up now.
hi if i sent you 50 different addresses will you still put the hamilton in the envelope.lol

Off Topic but Read and Heed

I am not sure what the problem is just lately. It seems like the holiday spirit is not as evident here in the forums as it should be.

When someone asks a reasonable question, if you take some sort of exception to it and it doesn't affect you personally, keep your fingers off the keyboard. There is no reason to flame someone for asking a question (nor is there any reason to respond to that flame). If it affects you personally take the complaint to PM or email, but don't raise the torch here.

That said, back to the topic at hand.

Then I guess there's no point in having forum rules and for that matter administers etc. Otherwise you are basically correct in your assessment and I tend to agree. A personnal attack, however, is something a little different and should be defended to a certain degree.
That's my last word.

I always price shop and consider the bottom line (tax, shipping, handling). Just after buying a BCT996T I was checking prices on the BCT15 thinking it would be nice to have another scanner for the bedroom but I didn't need the digital. Of all places, I found a killer deal on Amazon. It was actually a price mistake, but it was enough to seal the deal.

I always price around, trying to get the most bang for my buck. If the prices are close, then I buy locally or from someone have had past positive experiences with. Call it what you want, but I work for a living and have 5 children to support. Slickdeals, Fatwallet, Couponcabin, I will use them all to get the bottom line down to the bottom.

I like to get the most info I can as well. After finding a price to work with it usually comes down to "known" or "trustworthy" sources. After all the price won't mean much if you have problems after the purchase. You can't guarantee anything I suppose but you should feel comfortable doing it. Thanks for the info and I'll check a couple of those as well.

The likelihood that I'll pay lots of shipping for fast, reliable shipping goes up as the cost of the item I'm buying goes up.

Therefore, I bought a 396 for $509 and paid $27 to have it shipped 2nd day air. Yeah, it was a few extra bucks. Do I regret it? NO WAY. The worst-case is that it gets lost in shipping, second worst case you wait eight days for a $500 awesome radio. I got it fast and with more expensive shipping methods, you have a bit more 'care' by the shippers.

More on topic, though, 9.80 is actually darn good UPS for a handheld radio. Most people are trying to squeeze $15 out of handheld shipping these days.

In that case you'll really be impressed because I'm going to be getting the BC898T for that cost not a handheld. At least that's what it figured out to be when I checked. With my luck I probably did something wrong or else the price will change by the time I actually pull the trigger. I don't usually get too worked up about whether it takes a couple extra days or not, I just can't seem to justify that much extra to get it. If I can't wait then I shouldn't get it - a way to punish myself for being too child-like. I like to think I'm setting a good example for myself!
