Looking to start playing around with an SDR setup. I live in a very rural area with no trunked systems nearby, but lots of P25 conventional. Is there a setup i can get started with that will do P25 Conventional. Thanks in advance for any help!

How many different P25 frequencies do you need to scan, and what is the total bandwidth from lowest to highest frequency?

Use this calculator to determine how many dongles you'll need to cover your intended bandwidth spread. RTL-SDRs typically cover between 2.4 & 3.2MHz of spectrum. Or you could invest in an SDRPlay to cover just shy of 10MHz of spectrum

If it’s just the 2 freqs, you can use DSDPlus with 1 dongle and just uses a scan list and it will scan those.

You can use 2 dongle and run 2 instances of DSDPlus with each set to one of the freqs.

You can also use 2 dongles and run SDRTrunk which will allow you to listen and or record both freqs simultaneously.

With any methods you choose, you can install either trunking recorder or rdio scanner which can ingest the audio and allow playback thru a web browser. If you set up port forwarding on your router, you will be able to listen from outside your home if desired.

You might be able to use 2 dongles with op25 also. Op25 is Linux based. SDRTrunk and rdio scanner can run on Windows and Linux. DSDPlus is Windows only.

Possibly, depending how many discrete frequencies you want to listen to, and depending on the freq spread between them. Based on total spread of 453.175 - 462.9625 you might only need a single Airspy 2 or HydraSDR if you run at 10Mhz.
