I notice that the Uniden SDS200 scans through these three agencies out of order. The display shows the same "Favorites List" (F02), the same "System" (S02), but the scan sequence scans out of order.

Scan Sequence:

InkedDepartment 1_LI.jpg
Scans Favorites List 02, System 02, and Department 1 (D01)

InkedDepartment 3_LI.jpg
Scans Favorites List 02, System 02, and Department 3 (D03)

InkedDepartment 2_LI.jpg
Scans Favorites List F0, System 02, and Department 2 (D02)

I recall hearing that the Uniden SDS200 doesn't sometimes scan sequentially, depending on how the programming is set up. But, I can't remember the exact specifics of how programming can be altered to enable sequential monitoring of "Departments." It's a minor annoying technicality, but I would like to correct it. Any help would be appreciated!

You may want to review the manual. There is an excellent discussion on how scanning order works.

I suspect there is an engineering reason why this happens and Uniden ain't saying.

I think it is the order they were created in Sentinel.

It scans in the order of the quick keys, and if no QK are set to a department it will be scanned last. If no QK are used at all then it will scan in the order it is seen in Sentinel. You can change the order of the departments using the green arrows in Sentinel.

It's probably that if no QK are set the value will be 255 dec FF hex and if a QK are set it will be from 0 to 99. So non-QK departments, or systems, will then end up last in the scanlist.

I just reprogrammed so that the order in which the departments are programmed are in the numerical order I would like them to scan, in sequence. It's working perfectly now, rather than switching between departments within the Favorites List out of numerical order. Thanks for the tip!

I think it is the order they were created in Sentinel.

Somewhere on here, there is a rather lengthy post and explanation by Paul (UPman). Feel free to search for it.

Couldn't find it, but there are a lot of posts under "UPman's" screen name, so I'll need more time to dredge it up...Thanks for the heads-up!

It seems that as we build a particular SYSTEM under a particular FAVORITES LIST, the QK scan order within the specific SYSTEM that the DEPARTMENTS are programmed into is dependent upon the order that we install the DEPARTMENTS into the SYSTEM.

So, in my case, I removed the two DEPARTMENTS from the SYSTEM that caused the scanning of the two departments to be out of scanning numerical order, and reentered them by flipping the order those two DEPARTMENTS were originally installed in. So, the two DEPARTMENTS were installed in the SYSTEM sequentially in the same order that I wanted them to scan in under the SYSTEM in question.

Logically, you would think that the DEPARTMENTS we assign QUICK KEY NUMBERS to within a System would dictate the numerical order you would expect them to scan in, but that's not the case. The QK NUMBERS we program don't correlate with the order that those DEPARTMENTS will scan in within a SYSTEM. It seems that if we program DEPARTMENTS randomly as we're setting up a Favorites List, and we want to utilize QUICK KEYS within the SYSTEMS by DEPARTMENT, the order that they scan in will correlate with when the DEPARTMENTS were setup in your programming sequence, and not according to the DEPARTMENT QUICK KEY numbers we assign.

This feature could be candidate for a firmware upgrade, as it's not presently an obvious methodology within any manual that I could find. It would be a more logical programming methodology that the scanner follows the numerical order you program for DEPARTMENT Quick Keys.

If you are interested in "ordering" you Favorite List(s), you can go to edit and then go to "Sort Favorites." Otherwise, I am completely uninformed about the mechanisms of scanning order.

I have (25) Favorites Lists programmed, but most are deactivated, and I only routinely utilize about (5) of them. But, were I to need to reorder them, that's good information to know! Thanks!

Although it took me a while to understand them, the "start up configuration keys" are incredible. Here in Texas, I have various trips organized by start up keys. I have Mclennan County as "0" and Bell County as "1."

Hence, it brings up many Favorites which you add to the list. After you engage the startup key and the radio fires up, you can still toggle Favorites on and off.

Another trick I used it to put a bracketed Favorite number in front of the Favorite name.

Example: [00} Waco Area Law Enforcement

That's a good idea, especially if somebody has numerous Favorites Lists to try and remember...(y)

Here is what the manual says:

SCANNING ORDER
With previous scanners, you selected banks to scan. With this scanner, you select Favorites Lists, Systems, Departments, and Sites to scan by assigning Quick Keys to them. Scanning is performed in a mixture of FLQK order and SQK order. The scanner does not scan all Systems in one Favorites List and then move to the next List. For each Favorites List with a quick key, starting with 0, the scanner scans each 0 SQK in FLQK
order and then moves to the next set of SQKs for each list.

Example:
FLQK 0, SQK 0; FLQK 1, SQK 0…. FLQK 98, SQK 99; FLQK 99, SQK, 99. Department and Site Quick Keys are scanned with each System.
Systems with the same quick key are scanned in order of creation. The Database is scanned next. Then, Systems with no quick key (including created Quick Save Systems) are scanned and in order of creation.

Conventional Channels and Departments within Systems are also scanned in order of creation.

TGIDs are not really scanned. The scanner checks for any activity in the trunking system and:
• Stops on all unavoided TGIDs when ID Search mode is set to On.
• Stops only on programmed TGIDs when ID Search mode is set to Off.
