I receintly moved and am not allowed to pole mount my Scantenna anymore. My best option is to mount it in the attic, but I dont have the nine feet or so to mount it verticaly. What would happen if I were to mount it horizontaly or as vertical as possible pointing slightly up or down or even slightly tilted on it's side?

Yes it will work. Want be 100% but signals are scattered in all directions anyway. Let us know how it works.

My Scanntenna is mounted in my attic also,

I had it mounted horizontal for a while. not only horizontal, but laying flat like a table.
It worked fairly well like that, it was a major improvement ovet the stock antenna attached to the scanner.

Since then I have flipped it over and went vertical, and it does make a pretty big difference!

But it will do a "decent" job laying on it's side.

When mounted horizontaly, it will become somewhat directional, like a beam, or yagi antenna. This could be to your advantage, if most of your monitoring is from one direction. It would also aid in attenuating interference off the back. If you can, try it in several directions, to see what works best.

I had attic mount my scantenna over the winter because of a wind issue that damaged my outdoor mount. The reception inside was greatly decreased from the out side mounting. I ended up by an inexpensive discone and my reception improved greatly.

The scantenna is back outside and the discone is still in the attic. I have the discone attatched to a minitor4 amplifer for our local FD.
