The following assumes you have a P25 Phase 1 scanner: Schaumburg PD is part of Northwest Central (part of the STarcom SC21 syestem) dispatch and the PD is encrypted. Fire is not. Being in SChaumburg, you should easily be able to hear Chicago PD and fire both of which will provide plenty of action. Also, you are just west of O'Hare airport and should be able to copt the towers, approach and departures with relative ease.
Also, with Route 355 and I-90 right there, you can easily copy Illinois State Police District 2, Distcict 15 (tollway ) and District Chicago. STARCOM21 Statewide Illinois Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

Thanks, I think I will take it then! I have a 436 so I do have the phase 2 capabilities

Schaumburg FD is dispatched on NWCDS Fire 3 along with Hoffman Estates and Streamwood, Schaumburg has station numbers 51-55. 98% of the time it's Phase 1 but every once in a while it switches to Phase 2. All the NWCDS fireground channels are Phase 2 unless an outside agency is in on mutual aid, then it usually is Phase 1 but that doesn't happen all that much - and with a 436 it doesn't make a difference to you anyway. Use SC21 site 149 and not 501, both are labeled Cook North, but 501 is the county's node which is 100% secure so don't even bother scanning it, you won't hear anything. In the immediate area ISP D15 covers I-90, on North Patrol, and D2 covers I-290 and Route 53. District Chicago covers the expressways in the city. ISTHA and IDOT aren't really active this time of year other than routine motorist assists and maybe a pothole or guard rail repair, but they're on SC21 too.
