Try:
- remove the battery
- plug the cable in to the PC
- power on
Does it ALWAYS give you that prompt? Yeah it has for me for years until this incident.
Just tried it several times without the battery,,,
Power the scanner on and had the prompt everytime...
You are using the Mini USB and not the Micro USB to power it right...
The Micro USB will power the scanner but will not connect to the PC...

Also, if you unplug the scanner (Without the battery) from the PC while powered on. You risk SD card corruption...
Should be powered off first...

Did you eject the scanner before unplugging the cable? When you change a SD card to a new scanner, you must turn the scanner on and then off for the new serial number to be written to the SD card.

This is not necessarily pin point specific to your particular situation, but might be, or could be useful to others finding their way into this thread.

Unfortunately, there are various flash memory products available on the market which are fraudulently represented. They use various methods to appear at first blush to be the advertised product and capacity while actually being far less. These methods often/usually can and will cause trouble at some point; sooner or later. This trouble often shows itself as strange errors and behaviors that users waste precious time trying to troubleshoot.

The best way I know to avoid fake products, is to buy trusted name brands from trusted retailers. For example, 3rd party jimmybob on Amazon or ebay might not be the best place to get your flash memory products from, especially if the price seems a little bit towards too good.

If you wish to verify flash media as legit or not, I suggest some free software called F3. It's available for most Linux distros right in the standard repos. Since it is FOSS, it may even be available for Win or Mac but I don't know. the F3 comes with a few programs. The f3probe program is the one to check with.

I hope this helps someone out.

True, and even worse, Amazon had a practice of "commingling" which meant that counterfeit items could be mixed with legitimate merchandise, and customers had no control over what actually shipped. They claim to have stopped, though: sellercentral.amazon.com.

OMG. This might actually explain a couple of times I got product that was close, but not EXACTLY the same as what I ordered. One of those times I sent the product back (it was a Samsung micro SDCARD in fact) and chewed butt with feedback. I wanted the part number that came out of the South Korean factory, not the one that came out of China. I had valid performance reasons for ordering what I ordered and the difference actually made a difference for my use case. It upset me for wasting my time and effort.

LOL. Yes. Different connector type. And I am seeing it connect in Device Manager, just not in Sentinel.

I always power off and wait for the SD card to be updated. Then give it a few more seconds before making any changes. Just accessing the SD card in the SDS-100 requires removing the battery. I am not doing operations like that (SD card removal/etc.) with the power on.

Just for the record, this occurred with SanDisc 8G micro SD cards that I bought in person at a retail store. Newest cards are 32G bought at Staples.

Okay then odds are whatever your issues are they aren't due to that. But... checking can't hurt (other than your time/effort to get the software).

I just checked. Currently some of the F3 programs can be used cross platform, but f3probe (among others) require something like Docker on Windows to use. That's probably more complexity than many people can or want to deal with. But you can always download a live Linux distro like LinuxMint, boot it, install f3 and use it. Of course since the live distro is not permanent or persistent, f3 would have to be re-installed next time booted. That's actually easy and quick though and well within the average Windows user's capabilities.

here is the Github to learn about the actual package:

Yeah... In my post #23 I verified when the Micro USB port is connected to the PC it will show as a Serial Port in the Device Manager...
But you can't do anything with it...
That port was for some future use according to Paul (UPMan)... But nothing ever came of it...

Sentinel won't see the scanner if it is in serial mode...
In Mass Storage mode it makes the scanner look like a very expensive external SD card reader...

I have two SDS-100s. I've custom programmed a 4G SD card in each. I was able to successfully update Sentinel, update the DB, and fully overwrite one scanner w/o issue as I've done many times before.

This is my point of curiosity. Hoping you've resolved your problem (I haven't read Page Two,) but does "Custom Programmed" refer simply to a batch of frequencies, or have you enabled or simplified (I'm hoping the latter, I've had my '100 for a year and a half, and I'm /still/ learning the thing - bloody radio's smarter than I am!) anything?

Custom refers to creating favorite lists tailored to one’s liking. Gives more control.
Ah. Was hoping (especially as regarding simplification - damn thing's smarter than I am. . .)
