Yo. I have a couple of questions regarding upgrading the SD card in my BCD436HP. First and foremost, I have the Provoice firmware upgrade and that is THE most important thing I have on the thing. Will changing the SD card effect that or do I need to take precautions? Does the firmware live on the SD card or in the scanner itself? Also, is the Radio Reference Full database on the SD card or does it live in the scanner? Will I need to save all that info in Sentinal? Can I just reload the database by updating in Sentinal. I have NO other Favorite Lists or settings I am concerned about at present. When I do upgrade the card, will this increase the start up time from off to active scanning. Thank you for help.

Firmware is in the scanner, not the card. All the DB/favorites and audio recording/data logging is on the card.
If you buy a new one, buy a card reader if you don't have one already and drag & drop everything onto the new card.
I would always make sure you keep everything backed up in Sentinel.
Start-up time is more directly related to what is stored on the card. Memory capacity shouldn't be an issue.

Usually when I get a new card, I'll use SDFormatter (https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/) to re-format the new card, then use Sentinel and do a "Clear User Data" on the card. Sometimes SD cards come with helpful utilities that take up space on the card. I might need the extra space for recordings.

The full database and Favorites Lists "live" on the SD card. The scanner will read from the SD card and load the appropriate data in the scanner.

Firmware, including updates, "lives" in the scanner.

A "faster" SD card is better if you can afford it. The reading/writing process goes a little quicker.
